Do you prefer big or small pets?

I'm just wondering how many people prefer big pets to small ones. I have one cat and 3 dogs myself, but I know that everyone has their own preference. I think that all sizes and shapes have their advantages, I would just like to know how many people like pets and what sizes. You can also tell me what kind of pets are your favorite.

I like both big and small pets. I have one dog and one cat and would like to have more.

I honestly don't have a preference in that way. I do prefer to own big dogs that don't spit all over the place, but other then that, I don't care whether the animal is big or small. I just love animals period.

it does not matter to me what size pet you have to me. small pets are just as much fun to have as big pets. i have nine cats and three dogs plus a horse as pets so it does not matter.

i have a medium sized dog and two cats.the girl is i guess on the big size for a feline and the boy is a kitten but i think he'll be pretty small. the size of the pet is not nearly as important to me as the size of its heart.

I love all shapes and sizes of pets. I have had big, medium, and small pets, but I believe that if you can give a pet a home and love, then it doesn't matter how big or small they are.

I don't mind little lap dogs, but anything smaller like gerbils can stay in the pet store. Ugh, never owning gerbils again, especially after the nightmare of the little bastardds reproducing. Gosh, that irritated all of us in the house. lol
Little toy poodles and small-breed dogs are fine. Love bigger ones too.

with cats, size doesn't matter. I just love cats. But if I'm going to have a dog, I like the bigger breeds. Or at least something respectable. Those little toy, yapper lapdogs are puntable! OK, so I'd never seriously punt any animal, but I'm just saying, they're anoying as heck, and I wouldn't own one. But as I said, any size cat, or medium to large dog is good.

Puntable? That's funny!
I like bigger dogs, but I like some smaller breeds like Dachshunds and Beagles. Anything with that nasty poodle coat, you can keep. Anything that has to be professionally groomed all the time, you can keep. Otherwise, I like pretty much all dogs. Cats, on the other hand, are ok if they're sweet. To me, they're still wild animals, and can't really be totally trusted.

Well, I work in the shelter system, so I've been around all types of animals. As for cats, they're quieter, use a litterbox, make that nice purring sound and don't need to be walked, so I gues it makes no difference what color, breed, or size they are. I wish people would quit trying to match the color of their pet to the furniture! As for dogs, my mom has a small doxi/chihauhau mix and thing drives me crazy! This thing barks a lot and mostly at nothing, her own shadow, a leaf moving, anything. I've had good smaller dogs, but I don't like this one, though mine were bigger than lb5. I prefer dogs medium size like shelties or larger like labs and dobermans. I also find that the larger the breed, the easier it is to house break it, even chow-chows.
I currently own one large female yellow lab that was a stray rescue about 10-years old. One fancy and one hooded female rats. Two rescue cats and one pure persian. One pair of chinchillas, standard grey. One sun conure, smaller parrot and a wing-damaged wild gold finch. I also have one dwarf rabbit, one guinea pig, and a cockatiel and an amazon parrot. No mice, gerbles, hamsters! I did have an iguana at one time and have been researching bearded dragons.
I also have at any given time various pregnant cats, mamas with kittens, or abandoned kittens or stray adults that I'm fostering for the local shelter until they're ready for adoption Several fostering shelter systems in my state supply all food, litter, meds, leashes and whatever you need for the fostered animals.
And no, there are no kids.
Oh, I almost forgot, my mom is staying with me and she has that nippy pocket pup.
No, I do not breed, though I used to years ago with a different pair of chinchillas and all my animals are fixed except the ones that live in the same cage and are the same sex like the rats.
Tip, when buying rodents from a private person or a breeder, make sure they are sure of its sex in case you want more than one of them. I know the mess with smaller rodents. My brother had mice some years ago and they bred and the mother ate the babies. Ick!

hahahaha nippy pocket pup? smokey bear punts the pup! yapper lapdogs are puntable! to quote sister dawn. hahah well as for me, i like big dogs, the yappy rat dogs can get hung on washing lines, most likely after sister dawn has punted them. *smile* though of course, i would never punt a dog, well not intentionally, though there was that one time when,,, ah, never mind. the dog forgave me afterwards. truth was, i tripped over the dam thing, it was about two cm high with a yappy voice and a crap atitude.

puntable dogs. we used to call them soccer balls. anyway, i now have a labradoodle not sure how big she is going to get. my medium sized dog had to be put down. the little cat died of a congenital heart defect. so we now have jone labra doodle pub one yellow lab and one cat at our house. i love labs.

Big pets eat more food, drop bigger turds, and shed more hair.

I prefer medium to large size dogs, but our landlord/upstairs neighbor has a small maltese that actually isn't that bad. Just a personal preference; I find the smaller/toy dogs to have something of a nervous disposition.

awwwe little dogs are nice.

Post 20 by DRUM GODDESS (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Tuesday, 22-Feb-2011 23:41:33

I love bigger dogs. The little dogs just don't do much for me. My favorite breeds of dogs are rottweilers and english labs. For cats the size really doesn't matter. Dogs and cats are really the only pets I like. I had a rabbit once and he was alright but probably would never had another one.

I love all animals but, prefer big dogs.

I prefer big dogs myself. I don't like alot of the small yappers because I am afraid I have a better chance of stepping on them. And besides, the medium and large dogs and I get along very well. I like boxers, labs, shepperds, and rotwhilers. I'm not a cat person at all.

Big dogs, big hubcaps, big mud flaps, big Walmarts freeze-framed images of Meg Ryan and Brooke Shields from the 1980s ... they all kinda go together.
Not really my thing.

Post 24 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 23-Jun-2011 17:58:14

I perfer small pets myself, but don't take that to mean I don't love all animals. I really do. I would just personally prefer to adopt smaller ones. I'm definitely a cat person, and I love love love small dogs, especially terriors. I agree with those who say they wouldn't go for rodents, though. I used to love having them around when I was little, because they were pets I could take care of on my own and I felt accomplished, but now that I'm more mature and responsible, I'll save the rodents for the little kids and go for cats and dogs. if I lived on a farm, I'd love to get a horse, so I guess my preference isn't necessarily restricted to small pets, but I doubt I'll ever live on a farm, so there you go. Lol

Love big dogs like walker hounds, labs, and goldens. cats are ok but only if they are inside ones.
